Rockefeller
Center is the largest privately owned business and entertainment
complex. Covering 21 acres in Midtown Manhattan, it is comprised
of 19 buildings, gardens, sculptures and artwork from more
than 40 artists.
Don't Miss :
-
GE Building: This building serves as the focus of Rockefeller
Center, rising 850 feet and 70 stories in the air. It is home
to the Rainbow Room restaurant, located on the 65th floor,
and the NBC Studios, where shows such as Saturday Night
Live, Dateline, Conan OBrien,
and the Today Show are taped.
-
The Rink: The ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center
is open from October through April, and becomes a restaurant
during the rest of the year. The gold statue by the rink is
of Prometheus, the ancient Greek god who brought new life
to man by giving him the gift of fire.
-
Channel Gardens: These gardens get
their name from the fact that they lie in the space between
La Maison Francaise and the British Empire Building, separating
the two buildings much as the English Channel separates the
two countries. The gardens contain six pools surrounded by
flower beds, and leads to the lower plaza, a sunken open area
rimmed by flags of the United Nations member countries.
-
Radio City Music Hall: One of New
Yorks most grandiose Art Deco creations, this theatre
is home to the world-famous Rockettes.
-
The Concourse: This network of underground
walkways is lined with shops, restaurants, and access to the
subway system.
