INBioparque, an interactive educational park, was created by the National Institute of Biodiversity in February of 2000 to spread a greater awareness of the value of biodiversity. INBioparque offers a great overview of Costa Rica’s biodiversity and protected areas.
- Students learn about the formation of the Central American isthmus and the reasons for its various climate zones.
- Students hike along the trails through three different ecosystems: the Rainforest, Central Valley and Dry forest, and the Wetlands where they see the abundant wildlife of each habitat.
- At INBioparque, students get an up-close look at caimans, tarantulas, snakes, turtles, and more at the Wildlife Stations, watch unique fish species at the Aquarium, and even interact with sheep and rabbits at The Farm.
Did you know?
- Costa Rica has 12 ecosystems and more biodiversity than North America or Europe!
- Costa Rica contains 6% of the world’s biodiversity and is only the size of West Virginia.
