The California State Capitol Building was completed in 1874 and cost $2.4 million to complete. It is home to the state’s governor as well as the branches of state government.

Interesting Facts:

  • Richard Nixon, our 37th President, is the only native Californian to ever be elected to the White House.
  • The large bronze state seal located in front of the west entrance was made by inmates at nearby San Quentin State prison.
