Luxembourg Park
Luxembourg Park was designed in 1612, and opened up to the public in the 19th century. The Palais du Luxembourg was built on the park for Marie de Medici in 1615.  It was built in Florentine style by Salomon de Brosse, due to Marie de Medici's Italian descent. During the French Revolution, the palace served as a prison, as well as headquarters of the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. Today the palace is home to the French Senate. The park has become a place for children to rent small remote-controlled boats or watch Puppet Theater as well as a place for Parisians to relax and get away from the parks' busy neighboring streets.

Fun Facts

  • It's quite popular among older men to meet under the chestnut trees and play chess or pitch balls in a traditional game of boules.

  • The Luxembourg gardens are often the scene of many Paris romances.
