The Latin Quarter
The Latin Quarter definitely deserves a walking tour. A lively student district, the Latin Quarter earned its name from the Latin-speaking students who attended Sorbonne University. Established in 1252, the University became the center for knowledge in the Western world and was a site of rebellion during the French Revolution.
The Latin Quarter is also the place of two important Roman ruins - an arena and well-preserved baths (found in the Musée de Cluny). Today the Quarter caters to the large student population and harbors a bohemian lifestyle boasting book stores, cafés, movie theaters, and jazz clubs.
