Jardin des Tuileries
Jardin des Tuileries or "Garden of Tiles" used to be gardens of the old Palais des Tuileries. The beautiful formal gardens built by Andre Le Notre in 1664 became the place to see and be seen. Today they are an integral part of Paris and run parallel to the Seine from the Louvre to the Champs-Elysees and the Arc de Triomphe. This prestigious area is also a place for gardening, painting, sculpturing, and modeling work groups. Children can find a traditional merry-go-round, donkey rides, and small boats.
Fun Facts
- As early as the 1700's the park had features such as cafés, kiosks, and public toilets.
- The Tuileries Garden covers about 63 acres and still closely follows a design laid out by landscape architect Andre Le Notre.
