Île Saint- Louis
Originally, Île Saint- Louis was two different islands; Île aux Vaches (Island of the Cows), nothing but pasture; and the Ile Notre-Dame, site of judicial duels during the Middle Ages. It wasn't until the 17th century that the two islands were united. Today, the Île Saint-Louis is one island, connected to the "mainland" and the Île de la Cité by five bridges. It is a beautiful place to enjoy the 17th and 18th century mansions surrounded by tree-lined landscapes and views of the Seine.

Fun Facts

  • Since Île Saint- Louis' transformation from a cow pasture, rich artists, physicians, actresses, and heiresses have lived there.

  • During the time when Île Saint- Louis was still split into two islands, legends tell that devils and witches held Sabbath on the larger Ile de Notre Dame.
