Windsor Castle
Since its original wooden form built by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle stands as the oldest and largest working castle in the world.  Along with Buckingham Palace and Holyrood Palace, Windsor Castle is one of the three official residences of the reigning monarchy.  Through the continuous change of reign, the castle’s physique has been modified amid the pattern of war and peace.  When the country has been at peace, luxurious apartments were constructed; when the country is at war the additions are more fortified.

Fun Facts

  • Windsor Castle also has a Changing of The Guard.
  • In November of 1992, a fire in the Queen’s private chapel spread for 15 hours to eventually destroy nine of the principal state rooms and severely damaged over 100 more.  It took five years and $59.2 million to complete.
