Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey, also known as The Collegiate Church of Saint Peter, is directly to the west of the Palace of Westminster.  It is often mistaken as a cathedral, but is, infact, a Gothic Church that is the resting place of Britain’s monarchs and the traditional place for coronation.  Inside the abbey are some of the world’s most renowned examples of medieval architecture.  Half national church, half national museum, the abbey is central to the city’s existence.

Fun Facts

  • The Abbey contains the Coronation Chair, the place that all monarchs have been crowned since 1308.

  • A few notable people buried at Westminster Abbey include: Charles Darwin, Sir Isaac Newton, Geoffrey Chaucer, and Charles Dickens
