Houses of Parliament
In the Palace of Westminster is where the The Houses of Parliament have debated legislation since 1512.  The Houses consist of the Lords and the Commons.  Both houses are made up of elected Members of Parliament (or MPs) from different political parties.  The building’s architecture is Gothic Revival constructed by Sir Charles Barry and Augustus Welby Pugin.

Fun Facts

  • The Palace was rebuilt in the 19th Century after it was almost entirely burnt down in 1834.
  • The Palace is also home to the famous Big Ben.
  • The only surviving part of the original Westminster Palace is Westminster Hall, which dates back to 1097.
