Hill Top
Hill Top is a 17th century cottage farmhouse that was purchased by Beatrix Potter, the famous children’s author, in 1905.  It was here that she got the inspiration for one of her most famous works, the Peter Rabbit books.  Characters such as Tom Kitten, Samuel Whiskers and Jemina Puddleduck were all created here with illustrations that are based on the house and the garden.

Fun Fact

  • Beatrix Potter left Hill Top to the National Trust with the provision that it would stay exactly the same as when she left it, including her furniture and her china.
