Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British royal family.  First built in 1837 by John Nash, the Palace became the official residence of Queen Victoria in 1837.  Today the residents are the Queen and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.  The Palace additionally serves as a base for visiting world leaders, a setting for state ceremonies, and as an unofficial gathering point for national celebration or mourning.

Watch the ceremonial Changing of the Guard, performed every day in the spring and summer and every other day in the fall and winter.  This ceremony is just that – a traditional ceremony showcasing the changing of the Queen’s Guard.  It is not merely for the tourists, though it does attract thousands each day.  The Foot Guards involved are some of the best soldiers in the British Army.  In addition to upholding these practices of the past, they perform other duties as professional soldiers.
