A new exhibit honoring the American sacrifice during wars that span the nation’s history opened in Washington , D.C. on Veteran’s Day. Located in the National Museum of American History, the display is titled “The Price of Freedom: Americans at War.” “From the Revolutionary War, to the global war on terrorism, America ’s sons and daughters have indeed paid the very high price of freedom,” says General Richard Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Items on display include George Washington’s uniform from 1789, a sharpshooter’s rifle from the Civil War, and pieces of the Berlin Wall and the World Trade Center towers.
Starting November 1st, visitors to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, the newest branch of the National Air and Space Museum, will be able to see the space shuttle Enterprise. "This is the closest you can ever get to a real space shuttle, and you can see it from every angle," said Valerie Neal, space shuttle curator.
The Smithsonian’s new Museum of the American Indian has opened its doors to the public. The museum houses over 8000 objects from across the Western Hemisphere, including paintings, movies, music, masks, and much more. The museum takes up the last remaining spot on the National Mall between the Capitol and the Washington Monument. Museum officials expect the museum to attract over 4 million visitors each year.
