Declaration of Independence
Begin by downloading and viewing a video at the link below. The video is a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence, read by many of today’s most popular movie stars inside Independence Hall where the document was signed.
To understand the Declaration of Independence as a document, you must first understand the events that lead up to its creation. Using the link below:
- Click on “The Call for Independence” to learn about the frustrations the colonists had with Mother England and learn about the five committee members assigned the task of drafting the Declaration.
- Click on “Interpreting the Declaration.” By clicking on each section of the document’s text, you can learn more about what the language means and why it was included in the final draft.
- Take the “Quiz” to see how much you have learned.

The original Declaration of Independence is on display at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Use the link below to access the National Archives’ webpage.
